The Clan of the Cave Bear series is a fictional tale set 35,000 years ago. The story centers on a girl named Ayla and her journeys through life. It is a wonderfully written story with great detail in the surroundings and events laced with the mysteries of healing and sight. For those of you who have seen the movie, don't be discouraged, the books are much better! But beware, these books do contain sexually explicit moments.  Also in the series are Valley of the Horses; The Mammoth Hunters; The Plains of Passage.

A Patchwork Planet

Anne Tyler skillfully uses words to show us how the threads of our own experiences in life weave a beautiful tapestry.  The main character, Barnaby Gaitlin is a lovable loser who is doing the best he can to make his life right, although his own inherent curiosity seems to be his own worst enemy.  I found myself going back and looking for the threads of my own life.
