Meditation opens the door to your real self, and intuition is the light that shines through the opening. Intuition is your inner knowing. It manifests itself through flashes of ideas, plans or thoughts. These flashes have been appropriately described as the prompting of the "still small voice within". It has also been referred to by many as hunches and gut feelings.
Intuition is not concerned with reason. It will suddenly appear in your life at times when you need a little help to point the way. It has often been said that if we were to record our intuitive promptings we would be astonished at how many times they would have revealed the right path if only we had followed through on them. Intuition is that thought which makes you take a different route to work, only to find out later that you avoided a traffic jam. It is that feeling which makes you go back and make sure you locked the door, or put out the candle. It is a silent thought which prompts action. Women's intuition is recognized by everyone, yet men's intuition is just as strong. When intuition is trying to give you a "yes" to a situation or thought, it will steal in on silent wings and gently tap you on the shoulder. Often we will not even know when it has appeared. It will return again and again until we notice it or have passed the point of its usefulness. The "no" arrives a little more dramatically. It will manifest in a restless feeling, a feeling of discontent or discomfort. It very often causes a burning pain in your solar plexus or stomach. Hence, "a gut feeling". If you do not listen to it, it too will repeat itself until you take notice. However, intuition will never force itself upon you. You are always at liberty to use your free will. I have learned through trial and error that my intuition is never wrong. If I have an uneasy feeling about a purchase, transaction or situation I have learned to walk away from it. A nagging thought now gains my immediate attention. Keep a written record of the times you have received some intuitive prompting. Get to know the way your intuition gives you input. Think about some instances of intuition appearing in your life. For example, you knew you shouldn't have become friends with a certain person, only to have a relationship that turned out less than joyful. You really felt you should have called a friend, only to find out later that they had hoped to hear from you. There is intuition that comes to you in inner ways and intuition that comes to you in outer ways. The inner way is that "still small voice", hunch, or gut feeling. The outer way can come through overheard conversations, a sudden appearance of a friend with some information on a problem you are contemplating, a phrase in a book, newspaper or magazine that seems to jump out at you, a television program, or a song on the radio. They always manifest through a series of outer events that take place. Learn to trust your intuition. It will tell you what to eat, who to associate with, when to act on something and when to wait, when to exercise, when to relax, what to read, and even when to turn on the television to watch something that will benefit you. It will be your friend for life. How do you develop your intuition?
